A little history
The Sapphire Coast Concert Band was established in 2002 by Ms Kelly Pettigrove (a local music teacher) and the late Neil McGill (musician and member of the Down South Jazz Club). Both shared a vision of creating a community based music group that would bring together the diverse and rich musical talents of local residents and encourage the ongoing development of young musicians. Consequently, the Sapphire Coast Concert Band was set up to foster musical talent in the Bega Valley Shire by creating a community concert band where skills could be developed and encouraged for musicians of all ages.
This was followed with the creation of the Sapphire Coast Big Band to explore the Big Band/Jazz genre. It changed its name to the Sapphire Coast Jazz Band in 2017. The majority of players in the Jazz Band are from the Concert Band.
